Diet and Health
The Medicine Wheel nutrition plan is based on research from the Harvard School of Medicine. You’ll get plenty of protein, as well as fruits and vegetables. It’s healthy, basic fare that you’ll prepare yourself as you learn to cook low-impact wilderness style.
Besides eating healthy, you’ll experience daily physical activity. Your activity will vary depending on your fitness level and ability. You can expect to see positive changes in your physical appearance with this combination of nutrition and exercise.
In our adolescent program, Body Mass Index studies revealed:
- Most girls lost 10 pounds of fat and gained 6 pounds of muscle.
- Most boys lost about 5 pounds of fat and gained .5 pounds of muscle.
- Most participants who were under-weight at admission gain both muscle and fat.
- Most participants reduced their heart rate by 7 beats per minutes.
